About Department of Mechanical Engineering

Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2004. The Undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering (B.Tech) has intake strength of 60 students per year now. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of machinery. Department lays emphasis on building strong foundation in theoretical aspects of various subjects and provides opportunities to practice the theory learned in class rooms through lab work, course work, mini projects, major projects etc. Students are encouraged to share their ideas and learning with fraternity of engineering students in the state through participations in seminar and workshops. Department strives to create various career options through participation of experts from academia, R&D organization and industry to interact with students. The Mechanical Laboratories are the best in Kerala amongst the modern generation Engineering Colleges with adequate growth potential. We have provided infrastructure over and above the curriculum requirement to promote research initiatives among our student community. So the department takes up external consultancy works.

Vision

To equip graduates with the spark of innovation, entrepreneurship and research.

To fit graduates in industry, academia, research centers with additional co- curricular activities with emphasis on social responsibility towards society and the nation.

Academics

Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies engineering, physics, and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines. The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of core areas including mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricals. In addition to these core principles, mechanical engineers use tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others.
